Day 10: Fri 26 Feb - Burrum Heads to Home, 23km

Normally on a Friday, Greg rides his motor bike to Burrum Heads for mornos with the boys (and some girls). So, today, he went for q quick bicycle ride then joined Ian and the others at the cafe for a coffee and a catch up. Wendy walked then slowly packed up the van in preparation for our departure.

We were out of the park just after 9am and home about 25 minutes later. After emptying the van fridge and freezer, it was time for mornos. The the rest of the morning was spent washing and emptying the rest of the stuff from the van.

After lunch, Wendy went into Hervy Bay to attend a funeral - a nephew of her Australian dad, whilst Greg washed both the van and vehicle.

We had a relaxing nine nights away at Bargara and Burrum Heads.

Day 9: Thu 25 Feb - Burrum Heads

Greg was up super early to ride to Burrum Town to meet our fellow riders who do the Burrum Heads on a Thursday.
Whilst Wendy worked Greg rested with his book.
Had afternoon tea with Glenda and Arthur then pre-dinner drinks with Ian and Carol, and dinner with Jo and Kev, Gunther, Mark and Sue, and Geoff at the pub.

Day 8: Wed 24 Feb - Burrum Heads

After breakfast, Greg went home to do some watering whilst Wendy worked.
After watering, Greg picked up Stan and brought him to BH pub for lunch.
Wendy received her drone today but didn't have time to play with it
Had dinner at BH pub with Ian, Carol and Barbara.

Day 7: Tue 23 Feb - Burrum Heads

Prior to going to bed last night we dragged our little electric fan heater out of the cupboard and put it on fan only. Whilst it was noisy, it did circulate the air and made the night somewhat bearable.  So, seeing as though we survived the night, and it was reported to be one of the hottest for a while, we decided to stay until our original departure day of Fri.

Greg went for a ride and Wendy went for a short walk.

Whilst Greg went and socialised with his cousin, Wendy worked. Greg then invited Ian and Carol over for mornos, so Wendy had to interrupt her work for a while as we did have a bit of a long chat.

We rested during the ehat of the day then went over to I&C for afternoon drinks and another long chat. We were going to go to the pub for dinner, however, the kitchen is not open on Mon and Tue. So, tomorrow night it is, amd then again on Thu with the traditional Thursday night pub group.

Day 6: Bargara to Burrum Heads via Home, 128k

Went for an ear.y morning ride with Mark and Sue to Burnett Heads. Rode through a lot of mist, but sun was up and shining brightly by the time we returned.

Had breakfast, packed up and left just after 9am heading for home to do a bit of watering. When we got home, it was obvious we’d had no rain because the grass was all brown and crispy and the trees were stressing badly.

Arrived at Burrum Heads just after 1pm and set up on #103. Had lunch then a little rest.

Went for a walk to find Ian and Carol who are here for 2 weeks; found them and stayed and had a drink with them and returned to the van about 5pm.

Forgot to mention in yesterday’s post that our Cavan Aircon is on the blink! Last night we were almost broiled in our own sweat. And today, it was 38deg at home before we left for BH! We ar supposed to be here for four nights, but will re-assess in the morning after the heat overnight. Greg says he will stay no matter what, but Wendy may leave and stay at home.

Thank you Mark and Sue and Gunther and Yvonne for your company over the last 4-5 days. Until next we meet in the great outdoors in our houses on wheels.

Day 5: Sun 21 Feb - Bargara

After breakfast we thought we’d try and ride to Elliot Heads to watch the beach volleyball competition. Alas we came up a few km short as they have still not made a decent walking/bike track nor fixed the main rod in to include a verge. And, as everyone, in their fast cars, were also heading to EH, we decided to be sensible and head for home. 36km and we were home for a well deserved coffee and muesli bar each.

Greg went out again in the afternoon on foot to Woolies for a few resupplies.

Had dinner with Mark and Sue (Gunther and Yvonne left this morning) in the camp kitchen followed by after dinner drinks at ours.

Day 4: Sat 20 Feb - Bargara

As it is a Saturday, we had planned to do a ride into the Bundaberg Barrel where they brew the Bundaberg Gingerbeer and other softdrinks. However, it was drizzling, so it was just Greg and Wendy. It was an easy 18km into town, but Wendy looked like a drowned rat when she arrived. The Gallery at the Barrel was informative but small and we were soon having our mid morning caffeine fix. The ride home was slightly faster mainly due to it being mostly downhill with a tailwind for most of the way.

We then had to wash the bike clothes as they were a tad dirty just to make sure the van washing machine still works; it does.

Lunch was had in the camp kitchen with the others. We then reitred to our house for a nap.

Dinner was back at the Bargara Beach Hotel with just G&Y this time as M&S had gone off into Bindaberg to have dinner with Sue's daughter; why try somewhere else when you know that what you order is likely to be good?

Day 3: Fri 19 Feb - Bargara

Whilst Wendy did a full day's work, Greg did what he likes doing best - riding his bike. He did a 42km ride before lunch then 16km after lunch.

We had dinner in the camp kitchen with Gunther, Yvonne, Mark and Sue. After dinner drinks were had at the Fischer's house.

Day 2: Thu 18 Feb - Bargara

We both did a pre-breakfast walk. We then met the others at the front gate to the caravan park at 8am for a ride to Burnett Heads, which was an easy ride with a half-cyclonic tail wind. The coffee shop at the Port of Bundaberg Marina did not open until 9am and we arrived at 8:30am, so we wandered for a bit then had coffee and rode home into a screaming headwind.
Wendy worked and Greg rode.
Lunch then a nap, then Greg rode some more.
Went to Bargara beach hotel for dinner and all meals were good. Walked there and back then met the others under the tree for a post dinner drink/tea

2021 - Wide Bay (Bargara and Burrum Heads)

Day 1: Wed 17 Feb - Home to Bargara, 106km

Due to Wendy having a session with the Physio and Greg taking a friend into Hervey Bay for a medical appointment, we didn’t leave home until just after midday. No problems though as Bargara is ‘just up the road’. Took a little over an hour and a half mainly due to roadworks.

We were set up on site #75 just before 2pm and after a quick late lunch we took our cuppa and chairs and had afternoonos with Mark and Sue on site #21. Gunther and Yvonne arrived just before sundowners. We spent an hour or so catching up then retreated to our house for dinner.
